Escaping by bike allows the distractions of day-to-day life to subside. I focus on place and people; where I am and who I’m with, and I find shooting with an analogue camera – Yashica T4 / Ilford film – compliments this mindset. With no screen to review previous frames, they are out of your conscience as quickly as the film is wound on, only to be rediscovered when you finally return home…
The Peak District National Park is a nostalgic place, for me. Fond memories of damp childhood holidays: hiking across moorland hilltops; sheltering in famous Castleton Caves and eating Bakewell Pudding – perhaps the greatest export – it is an area my family returned regularly. The 2019 Pannier Peakland Ramble, however, was the first time cycling in the Peak District and my excitement lay in being shown the best back roads & gravel tracks to ride, bikepacking between Manchester and Sheffield, without having to do endless research myself. The Peak is Pannier’s back yard and my high hopes were more than fulfilled…
