Lucky Saint Alcohol-Free Beer / Visit Cornwall
Like all good bikepack trips, this one started with a pub, a map, and a sleeper train. The pub: the Mall Tavern in Notting Hill, where we all met, ensured everyone was kitted out for a few days on the bikes and shared a few drinks poring over maps of our three day coastal route ahead. The sleeper train: the GWR ‘Night Riviera’ from London-Penzance, complete with four bike hangers, cosy bunk-beds, tables that flip into sinks, and a bar carriage. Departing London at 23.45 we’d disembark 8 hours and 500 kilometres later, in the south-western reaches of our island, hoping the weather forecast was wrong for a change…

Pizendawn [v, Cornish]
raining heavily
Meeting up with friends Jack, Sam and Casey at Foundation Roasters who not only sorted us with a roof from the relentless rain but a fair few coffees, and a hearty round of affogatos made with Cornwall’s finest ice cream – Moomaid. Delicious.

“Whilst a regular cyclist, this trip is my first bikepacking experience. I see bikepacking as escaping; being self-sufficient and getting off-the-beaten-track for a few days”
Luke [Founder, Lucky Saint]
Meeting up with Frosty and Beau at Pentire Spirits who brought some of their tasty ‘Adrift’ non-alcoholic spirit – distilled with plentiful Cornish Rock Samphire and Sea Salt – served ice-cold with tonic and a rosemary sprig garnish, and helped with some firewood for Stef’s Cornish Mackerel Puttanesca. After going for a sea swim, El nailed the spaghetti cooking. Everything tastes better on a beach.
“The greatest reward of cycling, for me, is actually the time you spend together – those shared moments and conversations”

Six of us alight the sleeper train at Corrour - the highest, remotest station on the West Highland Line - and 'go for a w̶a̶l̶k̶ ride' through the wintry, gloomy Grampian Mountains of Scotland.
